Hi, I’m Lucie — a professional furniture upcycler based in Buckinghamshire. I specialise in transforming tired, outdated pieces into unique, beautifully finished furniture that feels completely new again. Every piece I work on is thoughtfully designed, carefully painted, and full of character. My Story (so far!)
Creativity was a big part of my childhood. Alongside spending a significant amount of time at my parents’ architectural practice helping out with various jobs (and, without realising it at the time, gaining invaluable early exposure to design), I was always sketching everyday scenes in a small charcoal and coloured pencil sketchbook, making handmade bunting from seashells, or hand-sewing clothes for my dolls.
At university, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Turkish and Middle Eastern Studies, followed by a Master’s in International Relations. I began my career in political communications and events, working first at the United Nations and later within higher education institutions. It was an exciting time for me, but over the years I found myself increasingly drawn to more creative, hands-on work.
Furniture upcycling had always been a passion and a long-standing hobby, and in 2014 — after becoming a mum and wanting more quality family time — I made the decision to turn that passion into a business. Flexibility and the ability to work around my son’s schedule became a key priority, and Studio Lucie was born.
Since then, I’ve fully embraced a more creative and self-employed path, building a business rooted in sustainability, craftsmanship, and design.
What I Do
I create bespoke painted furniture using high-quality finishes and creative techniques. My work often includes colour, texture, decoupage, gilding, and layered detail — all tailored to the piece and its future home.
